The party buffet was filled with the colors of the rainbow at our weather party. Bright and fun, we were able to sneak these healthful fruit skewers into the mix, simply because of their gorgeous colors. Rainbow fruit skewers are always a hit, and everything is even better when served on a stick! Get these adorable rock candy lollipop sticks for your party!

Wind chimes - weather party craft

Easy to use paint pens kept the mess at bay while we decorated “stained glass” wind chimes. We placed them on paper plates, labeled with each kid’s name, for mess control while painting and safe keeping while they dried. This is a great party activity to do while guests are arriving, which gives the paint plenty of time to dry before the end of the party. Another option is to color these with permanent markers for super speedy drying.

Balloon Snow - party activity idea

Next, we trudged through the deep “snow” and had an all-out balloon snowball fight! We placed a line of masking tape on the floor to mark off two relatively equal spaces (no, this won’t hurt your carpet/rug if the tape is removed when the game is done). The guests were divided into two teams, one on either side of the tape line. The goal for each team was to get all of the balloons on the opposite team’s side of the tape line.

Rainbow party activity ideas—decorate umbrellas

After getting a few of the wiggles and giggles out of our system, we transformed these simple white umbrellas into works of weather art! These umbrellas began as party décor, then became the party activity, and ended as the goody bag. All of the treats and prizes that each kid acquired during the party were tucked into their own umbrella for safe keeping until the party was over. Then, we closed and tied each umbrella with a rainbow ribbon as each guest said goodbye.

Using Sharpie markers to decorate the umbrellas meant instant art without waiting for the paint to dry!

We paused for a few rainbow inspired treats.

Party Game ideas—bubble wrap!

Then, an all-time favorite… musical thunder!? Yep, we created these clouds with simple poster board. The silver lining was drawn with a paint pen.

We used double stick tape to attach bubble wrap to the back of each cloud. As the music played, the kids were “dancing in the rain”.
When the music stopped, each kid ran to a cloud and jumped on it furiously to make “thunder”! Each round, we removed a cloud, until we found the master thunder maker in the group.

Finally, as we were bringing the party to a close, each party guest had their chance to be video recorded giving the forecast. We used a shower curtain map and weather symbols made from laminated scrapbooking paper. The video recordings of each kid’s forecast made a great addition to the party favor bags… or, actually, favor umbrellas!

Busy kids = successful party!

Time to put the finishing touches on your harvest party! With the Seven Dwarfs theme, we served none other than “Miner’s Brew." Mugs of Miner’s Brew for the kids are simply root beer floats. A scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with creamy root beer, to create this familiar froth, is all it takes. Presentation is the key!

We served the Miner’s Brew in beer mugs adorned with sweet, red polka dot tags. Then, we tied the tags to the mugs with coordinating ribbons. The brown of the root beer floats fits in perfectly with our brown and red color scheme, and vintage-looking striped paper straws are a must!

With the cool, but comfortable autumn air, the festivities were all held outside. As seating can often be a challenge at any party, we opted not to pull furniture from the far corners to seat our guests. Instead, we created rustic bar-like tables and used more of the red and white polka dot fabric to decorate them. Twigs filled with bright, red autumn leaves from the back yard became inexpensive and eye-catching centerpieces.

These charming tables were free! Yep, absolutely free for the asking, with exception of the hauling aspect! We do admit that they are a bit heavy. We visited an electrical supply company in town and were gifted with these perfectly rustic, dwarf- sized “bar tables”. The tables are simply the huge spools that hold electrical cord. Empty, and headed for the dump, we were happy to repurpose the spools, and the company was pleased to off-load them.

Miniature lanterns leaving with your little harvest party guests are so fitting for the Seven Dwarfs mining party theme. This darling, fall harvest party with a Seven Dwarfs twist (see the overview here), is a uniquely chic way to celebrate the cool autumn air! Today’s perfectly precious invitation idea will be sure to get your guests excited to attend your party. You can see the whole party in pictures on our Pinterest Board.

We created an invitation that is a game and a craft … all in one! Super memorable, and won’t end up at the bottom of the pile of papers on your guests’ kitchen desks! The hinged window tins give you the ideal opportunity to place a clever invitation inside, peeking through the window. These are the words we used. Feel free to plagiarize on this one!

We used glue dots to secure the invitation inside the tin, showing through the window. You’ll have to throw your party on the 23rd for it to rhyme, though! Ha-ha.

We celebrated a birthday with this fall party theme, but a whimsical Seven Dwarfs party is perfect for nearly any occasion. And, with the absence of a flowing princess dress in this party, it’s just as fantastic for the boys.

When these party invitations are opened, they become a mining expedition in a box! Hidden inside these sweet window tins, which we trimmed with a coordinating ribbon, are dry pinto beans… to represent the rock and earth. Scattered throughout the beans are sparkly beads… the gems! In each invitation, we placed a length of cord to string the gems as they are found. We added some simple instructions on the back side of our party invitation, so when the window tin is opened, you can see the instructions for the mining game and craft.

Here are the words we used for the inside of our magical mini mine:

The Dwarfs need help mining for jewels!
Keep all the jewels you find to make a necklace fit for a queen.
See you at my party!

These sweet Seven Dwarfs mining invitations can be handed to your friends, or sealed with some clear tape and mailed. If you are mailing, just wrap the tin with a band of kraft paper, add a mailing address, return address and postage, and send it off.

Apple picking season is upon us. We love the warm colors and all things fall. In the spirit of autumnal pleasures, we bring you this Seven Dwarfs themed party from our very own creative team here at Confetti Couture, complete with an apple dipping and decorating buffet! Featured in full on HWTM earlier in the year, we thought we’d feature it here in The Dressing Room this week, and on this Pinterest Board, to inspire creative fall entertaining across the land.

Not being huge fans of character themed parties, when we do go that direction, we prefer to use the B-list characters. And born was the Seven Dwarfs theme. Sorry, fair maiden, but the miners took center stage this time. The warm reds and browns make for a pleasantly vibrant fall color palette, and the engaging apple buffet lends to a fun party atmosphere.
We’ll help you recreate this look in your own apple orchard… or backyard. The party plan this week will include the invitations, favors, food, and fun.

For the caramel apple buffet, the table was first covered with playful polka dotted red fabric. The caramel was warmed and kept in a fondue pot near a basket of clean, dry apples. The sticks were inserted into the apples before the party. (Hint: If you have a well-worn play structure in your yard, it may be a great place to create your “mine”.)

For embellishing the dipped apples on the caramel apple buffet, we created mining cars from wooden salad bowls stacked on clear plastic containers for a little elevation. To the plastic containers we attached wooden rounds with buttons to look like the wheels on the mining cars. The tracks were created with brown ribbon and tongue depressors. We loaded the “mining cars” with toppings for the dipped apples. Candies, chocolate chips, nuts, cookie crumbs, crushed pretzels, and sprinkles all make fun toppings for your caramel apple buffet. Choose whatever you like to please your crowd.

We also warmed some water in a crock pot, covered in rustic looking paper, to keep some melted chocolates warm and ready to drizzle.

Cupcake wrappers were used to rest each finished apple. Guests made some to eat, and some to take home.

An oversized lantern filled with extra apples…

and worn wood(ish) signs completed this sweetly rustic caramel apple buffet.

Keeping the colors and theme consistent, makes for such a pretty party.

These easy Halloween craft ideas and Halloween party game ideas will keep the kids busy and giggling through your entire party. It’s always better to have too much to do, because you can always stash the extras away for a rainy day. Running out of activities for the classroom party can mean chaos, so bring more than you think you’ll need.

Mad Scientist Lab- Halloween cupcake and cake pop decorating

You will need:
Donut holes
Lollipop sticks
Slow cooker set to warm- to keep chocolate or candy melts melted
Unfrosted cupcakes
Frosting
Sprinkles, decorations, Dessert Skirtz cupcake wrappers

How to set up the cupcake and cake pop decorating center:

Melt the chocolate and put into warm slow cooker
Push a stick into each donut hole
Set out unfrosted cupcakes
Set out decorations

Have each child dip the donut hole to make a cake pop. While it is still wet, have them sprinkle the cake pop with decorations. They can frost a cupcake and decorate that as well. A clear plastic cup is an easy and inexpensive packaging idea for cupcakes. Just drop the cupcakes in into a clear plastic cup to send the treats home if you choose to not serve them as the snack during the party. The cupcake wrappers will show through the cup for a sweetly spooky party treat to go!

Have the kids make their own (cheap!) Halloween Party Favors

You will need:

Brown lunch sacks, one per child
Raffia
Glue
Markers
Popcorn, caramel corn, candy corn… any flavors of popcorn you choose.
Cups or scoops

First, have the class create their scarecrow treat bags. We found these adorable Halloween treat sacks on the Family Fun website. Set the bags aside to let the glue dry while you do other activities.

At the end of the party, allow the children to fill their own bags with their favorite mix of popcorn from the Popcorn Buffet. Staple the tops closed, and they have made a darling Halloween party favor to take with them… for pennies!

Lollipop Ghost Craft

You will need:
Lollipops- one per child
White napkins- one per child
Markers
Twist ties- one per child
Ribbon- optional- 5 inch lengths, one per child
Zip-top bags

How to prepare for the activity:

Cut the ribbon into 5 inch lengths
Into each zip-top bag, put one lollipop, one napkin, on twist tie, and a ribbon if you choose
Bring extras! Use one kit to make an example of the lollipop ghost while you are showing the children what to do.

How to make Lollipop Ghosts:
Give each child a prepared bag of lollipop ghost “ingredients”
With the napkin still folded, place the ball of the lollipop in the center of the napkin. Pull the corners up to the stick and fasten the napkin to the lollipop with the twist tie.
Tie a ribbon around the twist tie. This step is too difficult for small children, so have helpers, or omit it. Children older than eight can usually do this independently.

Halloween pumpkin bowling

You will need:
Medium sized pumpkin
Bottles of water
Food coloring
Strong glue
Masking tape

How to prepare for the activity:
Open the water bottles and drop food coloring into the water. Green, orange, purple… make it festive.
Put a line of glue inside the cap of the bottle (on the threads) and screw it back onto the water bottle.
Shake to mix the coloring into the water, and let sit to allow the glue to dry

Embellish the outside with a label or scrapbook paper that coordinates with the party theme,
if you wish.

Put a line of tape on the floor, and take about 3 – 5 paces and set up the water bottle “pins”. Use your judgment on the distance, depending on the children’s ages.

How to play Halloween Pumpkin Bowling:
Have each child stand behind the line and roll the pumpkin at the “pins”.
