For those of you that were deprived of this experience as a child… or have simply forgotten how to make pompoms… you will need:

1. Yarn- any kind, any color

2. Scissors

How to make pompoms:

Wrap the yarn around anything… a finger for a small pompom, two fingers for a bit larger pompom, your whole hand for a big giant pompom… you get the idea. Don’t wrap it too tightly- a gentle touch works best- just enough to hold the yarn securely. For a small pompom, about 25 passes around a finger or two is perfect. Larger sizes will require more than that to achieve a nice, plump pompom. Next, just remove the yarn from your hand, pinching the pieces together at the center. Using another piece of yarn, tie the bundle together as tightly as possible at the center with a secure knot. Cut each loop, and trim any stray ends. That simple.

Once you have made the basic pompom, you can get fancy if you want.

1. Add a loop of ribbon through the center, or attach a Christmas ornament hook.

2. You can use more than one color of yarn to make a pompom by cutting the first color after a few passes and starting with a new color. Use as many colors as you like.

3. String them together

4. Get out the hot glue and attach them to anything… get wild, get crazy!
